The Official Color Registry is a symbolic record-keeping system where individuals can claim and register a unique color with a custom name, personal dedication, and permanent registry entry.
Each registration receives a unique Registry ID, is cataloged with a timestamp, and is issued with a formal Certificate of Color Registration. Your color entry is permanently recorded in our database and assigned a dedicated registry page.
Similar to naming a star, dedicating a park bench, or naming a rose, color registration is a meaningful symbolic gesture—a way to commemorate occasions, honor loved ones, or celebrate creativity.
The Official Color Registry does not grant legal ownership, trademark rights, or copyright over colors.
This registry does not prevent others from using the same color in their designs, products, or artwork. It is a symbolic registration service, not a legal authority.

We do not mislead customers about legal protections, scientific authority, or exclusivity beyond our registry database. What we provide is meaningful symbolic registration with high-quality presentation—nothing more, nothing less.
Every registration, at every tier, includes the same core record: a unique Registry ID, your chosen color name and HEX value, the recipient's name, an optional dedication message, and a dated entry in the registry that can be looked up by anyone with the ID.
What differs between tiers is presentation and format—the certificate design and how the registration is delivered—not the status of the record itself. A digital registration is exactly as “registered” as the highest tier. Nobody gets a better claim on a color by spending more.
Is this a real, official registry?
It is a real registry in the sense that it is a genuine, permanent database we maintain, and your entry really is recorded and publicly retrievable. It is not official in any governmental, scientific, or industry sense. No authority recognizes color registrations, ours included. We are an independent commemorative service, and the word “official” in our name refers to the formality of the record we keep—not to outside accreditation.
Does registering a color stop anyone else from using it?
No. Anyone can use any color, anywhere, for anything. Registration does not create trademark, copyright, or any other enforceable right. What it does is reserve that specific color name and HEX combination inside this registry, so no second person can register the same one here.
How is this different from naming a star?
It is essentially the same category of gift, and we would rather say so plainly. Star-naming services, memorial bricks, and adopt-an-animal programs all work the same way: you receive a certificate and a record in a private database, and the meaning comes from the gesture rather than from any legal effect. If that is what you are looking for, this is that. If you are looking for ownership of a color, no service can sell you that.
Can two people register the same color?
No. Each exact HEX code can be registered only once here, on a first-come basis, and a later attempt on the identical code is declined at checkout. Names are not restricted the same way—two people may use the same name on different colors. Note that uniqueness applies to the precise code, not to how a shade looks: a value one step away is a separate registration and is visually indistinguishable to most eyes. Is this a good gift?
It depends entirely on the person. It lands well for someone who values a sentimental gesture tied to a date, a person, or a memory, and who enjoys a keepsake with a story attached. It lands badly for someone practical who would rather have something they can use. We would rather you know that before buying than after.
